OOTD: Shorts Edit

I enjoy watching haul/styling videos and reading blog post on the subject so I thought I’d do one myself. Hopefully, this will be a first of many. Most of the items in this haul were either thrifted or gifted and none of the items were over $20. I definitely recommend that you check out your local thrift stores and consignment shops because you can truly find some gems for a fraction of the price.

Outfit #1

This outfit is the perfect outfit for a casual night out with bae or the girls. What I love about this is that it would be an easy transition from the office to going out. Just change from your slacks and slip into your shorts and your good to go. The shorts were purchased from JCPenney for $20, while the cami top was thrifted for $1. The red blazer is a five year old Macy’s purchase for $5 (I love a good sale!). The wicker purse was gifted from my sister, but I believe it was purchased on Amazon.

Outfit #2

This outfit is fun and the best part is that it was under $15. Yes, from head to toe! The shorts are Calvin Klein and were thrifted for $1, the shirt is Ralph Lauren and was thrifted as well for $3.49. I love the tie detail at the bottom of the shirt and that it’s not too cropped. The bag is a Goodwill purchase for $9.99. I think this is a fun vacation outfit. You can throw on a wedge or some flats and you’re good to go.

Outfit #2.5

This one is basically the same outfit as above, but I’ve added a blazer and switched up the purse to give it a different vibe. The bag, which was another Goodwill purchase was $4.99 and gives the outfit a more summery vibe. The blazer, which is thrifted as well was a $7 steal and is great to jazz up any outfit.

Outfit #3

This is by far my favorite outfit because of this blazer. I stole this one from sister. Hey hoe (family humor)! As soon as I put this blazer on I feel confident. This blazer does for me what a good hair style does for most of us. I feel confident and beautiful in this blazer and it’s just one of those feel good pieces.

Jacket Closeup

What’s the saying, “The devil is in the detail!” This jacket has a satin finish and is gorgeous! It has a really nice feel and fit. I love when a jacket is tapered at the waist, it creates a slimming illusion.

Outfit#4

This outfit is super simple and cost $2. Yes, you read that right! TWO DOLLARS! This shirt is kind of special to me because I got it at a thrift shop in Georgia when we dropped my brother off for school. It still had the tags on it and was originally $49 from Nordstrom, but I got it for a dollar. (Sis, say it louder for the people in the back!) It was ONE DOLLA! I chose to tuck it in because I just like that look better. Am I the only one who attaches sentimental value to clothing?

Outfit #5

Here’s another simple outfit that was mostly thrifted. The crossbody bag from the image in the middle is a elephant leather bag that was $10. I feel guilty saying that, but it was thrifted. The white tee is from the brand Zara and was $3.49 from Goodwill. The jacket is an American Eagle jacket that I picked up from Plato’s closet for $9.99. This is a cute basic outfit that is perfect for a day out with bae and the kids.

Outfit #6

The top for this look was another Goodwill purchase, I snagged this one for $3.49 as well. This purse was the only expensive item in this haul. The bag is by the brand Luana Italy. The structure, texture and make of the bag is definitely high quality. This was my first “designer” purchase and I absolutely love it. The bag was originally over $300 at Dillard’s, but I paid around $100 for it once it went on sale. Sadly I’ve had this purse for quite some time (I’m embarrassed to say how long), but I’ve yet to wear it out the house.

I hope you guys enjoyed this first edition of OOTD (Outfit of the Day) and remember I (You) can do all things through Christ!

Best Drugstore Foundation

L’Oreal Infallible 24H Fresh Wear Foundation

I know, I know! This is not my first post about this foundation, but this is for the people who have asked me about my favorite foundation or asked me to recommend an affordable foundation. I honestly cannot rant and rave about this foundation enough. I mean look at it.

Infallible 24H Fresh Wear Foundation

First, let me tell you about my skin and my major concerns. My skin is very oily. I secrete most of my oils in my t-zone (chin, nose, forehead). My major problem is my nose and the area around it. My eyelids are also extremely oily but I’m dry under my eyes. I have larger pores on my cheeks and get the occasional acne blemish. I have hyperpigmentation around my mouth and get chin hairs that cause dark spots from the plucking. For me, personally I do not expect my foundation to work miracles and I’m not a full coverage kind of girl. I go for a my skin but better look, and that’s exactly what this foundation does.

Swatched shades from left to right: 545, 540, 535, 530, 525, 520, 515, 510.

L’Oreal truly outdid themselves with this one. There is zero flashback. Let me say it louder for the people in the back. There is ZERO, ZIP, ZILCH flashback! All the pictures above are with flash, the picture below is without flash.

Infallible foundation in natural lighting!

For the look featured in these photos I used 510 as a concealer, 525 as an all over shade, and 540 to contour with. I also have to shout out AC Cosmetics because their setting Powder is the truth! Below I compare how the foundation looks with and without flash.

Natural lighting vs. Flash

This is my number one drugstore foundation and I would recommend giving it a try. I think it works great for all skin types and skin concerns.

A Tribute to My Father

A Message to My Baby’s Father

I cannot stress enough the importance of having a father in your child’s life. I often feel like I hear people say a women can’t raise a man, or boys need their fathers. In many ways there is truth to that but I’d argue that fathers are equally as important in their daughters lives. My Father is the first man I ever loved and was the first man to love me. My Father loved me long before I even loved myself or could comprehend what love was. My Father showed me how a man is suppose to treat a woman; and I don’t mean wining and dinning a woman. What my Father showed me is far more important then that. He showed me how a man is suppose to respect a woman, love a woman, provide for a woman and their children. My Father made sure we had what we needed, not wanted. I have few memories of him being ideal or allowing the weight/stress of family life to lie solely on my Mother’s shoulders. At an early age he ingrained in me values, skills, and principles that I carry with me until this day.

I wouldn’t say a woman chooses a man based on the type of man her Father was/is, but he definitely plays a part.

I’ve never met a man with my Fathers even temperament, work ethic, knowledge, and genuine love and respect for the people around him. My Father is by no means super affectionate, but he’s there when you need a shoulder to cry on, when your boyfriends been cheating with Keisha from around the corner, or when the weight of the world seems to be tearing you down. In my life seeing how my Father treats me and responds to me has made me more aware of how my Heavenly Father feels about us, loves us, and wants to see us prosper.

I say all that to say Fathers never stop loving your daughters! Even if they marry the man you said was no good, or have a baby with the man you told them would break their heart. As a parent I don’t think you ever really know the impact you have on your child’s life, but I have to say love and emotional support help your child be able to face all of life’s obstacles. I can distinctively remember one particular time in my life where my Father came through in a major way. Not to get too personal there was a time in my life (really one of many-once you learn to love yourself they decrease) when I made some bad decisions. I felt alone, depressed, suicidal, and a plethora of other emotions. By the time I took it to my parents I was at my wits end.

Moms are so in tune with their children that my mom knew right away what was going on and when I finally broke down gave me an emotional response. (As child I don’t think we realize that the decisions we make often affect our parents. I recommend reading Stormie Omartian book, “The Power or Praying for Your Adult Children. That book really gives you some insight into what parents go through.) I’m not sure what my mom said to my Father or what his first words were but I do remember him holding me and letting me cry and telling me everything was going to be all right. That is a moment that has really stood out to me. There was no judgement, no harsh words, just unconditional love.

Thank God for both my parents because they balance each other. What I get from my Father my Mother could never give and vice versus.

I say all that to say to my unborn child’s Father, you are going to play the biggest role in your little girls life. She’s going to see how a man should treat a women through you. You will be the first man she loves and you will be the first man to show her unconditional love. That is a huge task, a task I feel comes naturally to most women, but something a man has to work towards daily and has to pray to God to help him perform right. She’s going to look at you and want to imitate you! She’s going to pick up on your words, your actions, and your speech. May God give you the strength and wisdom you need! ♥️

Deuteronomy 6:6-9

6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart

7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.

9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
