One Brand Wednesday Ep. 3

Covergirl (Full Spectrum Collection & TruBlend Undercover Concealer)

I have to start this post by raving about the TruBlend Undercover Concealer! I recently went into the drugstore (CVS) and found this product. I’ve been using the shade D100 Golden Caramel and let me tell you the shade match and consistency is to die for. This is hands down one of the best concealers I’ve ever tried. I love that I can spot conceal with this. My new thing has been not setting my makeup with a loose setting powder, and this concealer is great with that. It doesn’t budge, but if you like to set your face it works well with setting powders as well. I personally like this better than Tarte Shape Tape and I’d say it’s up there with my Nars Creamy Radiant Concealer. One thing I will say about this concealer is that it is a tad bit dry and dries down fast. I would recommend applying this concealer in sections and blending it out section by section. If not it may dry down and make it hard to blend out. The photo below on the left is the concealer with a full face and the photo on the right shows how the concealer looks with just my eyebrows carved out and spot concealing without setting.

The next product I want to briefly mention is the New Vitalist Go Glow Luminizing Lotion with Vitamins E, B3, & B5. So far I’m loving this product. I love a nice glowy fresh face and this product gives you that. I like to layer this product over my Mac Prep & Prime Lotion. Together this pair is a dream. I have combination skin and like most of you I get oily in my T-zone. This product combo does a good job with abating oils and still giving me a fresh slightly dewy look.

Covergirl Full Spectrum Collection

I have seen the Full Spectrum Collection everywhere and have finally gotten around to trying it. I’m definitely impressed with the Matte Ambition All Day Shine-Free Foundation. I’m impressed with the color range and the finish of this product. Below you can see swatches of four of the shades, from bottom to top: Tan Cool 1, Tan Golden 1, Tan Golden 2, Deep Golden 1.

Matte Ambition Foundation Swatches
1. Tan Cool 1, 2. Tan Golden 1, 3. Tan Golden 2, 4. Deep Golden 1)

This foundation gives you a nice radiant fresh face and dries now to a demi-matte finish. I love using Tan Golden 1 on the high points of my face to conceal before applying my all over foundation shade. This foundation also mixes well with other foundations. So far I’ve mixed this with the Revlon Colorstay Combination Foundation (as seen in the picture above) and the Fenty Beauty Foundation. I tried the shade Deep Golden 1 as an all over the face foundation shade (shown below) and loved the finish but felt that the shade was a little too dark. All of my other products laid like a dream over this foundation. I would reccommend all the products mentioned in this post. Don’t sleep on drugstore products.

New Mom Chronicles

Episode One: Back to Work

I’ve never known a love so beautiful and fulfilling. As my little girl continues to grow I feel like my love for her grows. I constantly joke with my mom saying, “Is this how you feel when you see me?” I’m sure you never stop loving your children, but I do believe the love you feel for them probably changes over the years. I pray that it just continues to grow.

This is love!

Everyone keeps telling me to enjoy my time with my little one because they grow up so fast. I’m already starting to feel like that is so true even though baby girl is only 10 weeks. Some days I want to stop time so I can soak up every moment with my sweet baby Scarlett. She has already started to scoot around on her back and stomach and even tries to roll over. She’s outgrown her clothes and is wearing 6 month outfits. I want time to stop or slow down so I can soak up every moment with her. I just pray I get to be there for as many of these changes as I can.

Each day my little princess seems to do something new that amazes me. She’s perfect in every way and I feel like she’s growing up so fast. That’s probably why I feel so guilty when I have to leave her to go to work. As she grows and learns more I hope that she knows how much I love her and that I would sacrifice anything for her. I thank my Heavenly Father for her daily.

The guilt I’ve felt daily having to leave Scarlett is something I’ve never felt. I never thought that motherhood would come with so much guilt. Right now I’m more fatigue than I’ve ever been in my life and I’m an emotional wreck. This morning I had to fight back tears of sheer exhaustion and guilt. I didn’t want to come into work; I wanted to sleep and most importantly I wanted to be with my baby girl. I’m on my fourth day of having to be away from her for ten hours and it doesn’t seem to be getting any easier. I’m sure much of the emotions I feel have to do with the sheer exhaustion I feel, but I’m doing my best to push through.

Patience. That’s my word for the rest of the month. I just have to remember to have patience with this new journey. My family has grown and there are going to be some growing pains. I just have to start each day with a positive outlook, seeing as Scarlett is a morning baby and is always smiling at me that’s not hard. I make sure I love on her and bond with her as much as I can when I’m with her.

Ipsy Made Me Buy It

I’ve been subscribed to Ipsy for around two years. Overall I’d have to give the company a 7 out of 10 rating. Some of the low rating may be because I haven’t been the best at updating my preferences and taking the quizzes to customize each months bag to my preferences. With that being said I have to say that each month I find at least one product that I love.

Who is Ipsy geared toward you ask? I’d have to say it’s geared towards people who are newer in the makeup game. People who want to try products before they spend a ton of money on them and people who are looking to save some coins. Ipsy always has savings for products offered in their bags and even products you may not have received in that months bag.

Here are a few of the items I’ve received in my Ipsy Glambag throughout the year that I’ve had to purchase.

Brushes

Luxie Beauty & F.A.R.A.H Brushes

Luxie Beauty! Man I could go on and on about this brand. I was so impressed with Luxie Beauty when I received my first brush that I had to buy more immediately. I currently have a nice collection of Luxie Brushes that I reach for often. I’m sure I’m not the only one who buys makeup products like they’re collectibles and never uses them. I’m happy to say that that is not the case with these brushes. Their brushes blend out creams, liquids, and powders like a dream. I notice a visible difference when I use these brushes. They don’t leave brush hairs all over your face, nor do they leave streaks. Your making a good investment if you invest in Luxie Brushes. I also have received quite a few Luxie Beauty Brushes in my Glambag after my purchase, which I’m not mad at. Brands are smart to partner with a brand like Ipsy to get their product out. I’d honestly never heard of this brand or seen beauty influencers talk about it and I don’t know why! An honorable mention goes to F.A.R.A.H Brushes. I like these brushes, not quite as much as Luxie but I’d recommend them. Here are some brands that I have not received in my Ipsy Glambag but I do recommend their brushes; MAC, Real Techniques, Morphe, Elf, and Eco Tools.

Concealer

Smashbox & IT Cosmetics

Concealer is one of those products it’s hard to sell me on. A lot of times the undertones aren’t right, the formulas not right, or they don’t come in a dark enough shade. I’ve recieved quite a few concealers in my Glambag but these are the only two that stood out and made me want to purchase them. I have combination/oily skin, I’m extremely oily in my T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) and dry around my mouth and the sides of my jaw. I generally stay with matte products becaus that’s what I feel works best with my skin. The Smashbox Studi Skin Concealor worked wonders and has a good shade range. It didn’t dry me out under my eyes and stayed put once it was set. The amount that was applied in my T-zone didn’t have me looking like a grease ball so I was definitely impressed.

IT cosmetics is not one of those brands that I feel are geared towards deep and deep dark complexions so I have generally stayed away from it. When I received Bye Bye Undereye Concealer I was impressed that there was a shade for me. Not only did I find one shade but I found a few shades that work for me and I was impressed with the formula. If you need full coverage this concealer will definitely give it to you. This concealer also made me explore this brand a bit more. They have some beauty brushes, and mat tidying products but I’m still waiting for them to expand their shade ranges before I really get into the brand.

Primer

MAC & Elizabeth Mott

Generally when it comes to primers I’m not looking for a product to full in my pores or fine lines because frankly those aren’t issues I deal with. I like a primer that mattifies and moisturizes. I know some of you may be thinking, “How can one product mattify and moisturize?” I cant tell you that but I can tell you it’s possible. My absolute favorite primer is MAC Cosmetics Prep N Prime. This stuff is a dream, not only does it moisturize my dry areas but it mattifies my T-zone and allows my makeup to stay fresh all day. I’ve gone through a few bottles of the full size product. For primers an honorable mention goes to the Elizabeth Mott Thank Me Later Primer. I like this primer and if I’m trying to switch it up I will grab this one. I pretty much will only apply this primer in my T-zone as I feel it is not as moisturizing as my MAC primer.

Face Masks

BioRepublic, Fresh Garden, and Saem

Skin care is one of those things that is extremely important to me. With that being said I typically like to apply all natural skincare products to my face, especially since I know there is a whole lot of gunk in some makeup products. The face masks listed above by Fresh Garden, BioRepublic and Saem are amazing. Each one serves a different purpose but the ones I have tried have left my skin really supple and rejuvenated. Out of all of these I’d recommend BioRepublic the most.

Perfume

Born Lovely & Juliette has a gun

I think we all love to smell fresh but I generally stay away from perfume because of the chemicals in them. If I do wear perfume I prefer to apply it to my clothes and not my skin. These two perfumes are once I’ve had to purchase and are in my top three favorite scents. My favorite is Vera Wang Princess ❤️ If you love fresh clean scents you will like these. I generally go for fruity, fresh and clean scents.

Lip Products

NYX, Aurora, Hempz, & More

Lip products are probably the item I hoard the most and will impulse buy the most. I know I’m also not the only person that impulse buys and then regrets it; I’m a recovering shopaholic and working on saving more. I’d say that Ipsy helps me do that. I get to try out lip products for a while before I actually go out and buy them or purchase them on a website. Out of the products featured above I’m impressed with NYX Liquid Lingerie the most. I love the shade ranges and feel like they cater and complement a variety of skin tones.

So is Ipsy worth the momey? I’d have to say yes. It’s worth it for the variety of products you recieved and for the full size products you receive. I’ve recieved full size brushes, and full size items for brands like Smashbox, NYX, and IT Cosmetics. Just be sure to review your Glambag monthly and keep your preferences up to date.

Review: Jouer’s Long Wear Lip Products

Jouer Long Wear Lip Creme

According to Jouer’s website the Long Wear Lip Creme claims to be , “A weightless lipstick that offers full-coverage color with a soft-touch finish that glides on smoothly and lasts all day. This buildable and ultra-lightweight lipstick offers a beautiful matte or metallic finish in a wide range of warm and cool shades. Transform your lipstick look from daytime to night with a swipe of a wand. The formula features vitamin E to ensure that your lips remain conditioned no matter how many times you switch colors.”

Prior to purchasing the Lip Creme I read some of the reviews online. Overall, this product had a good rating (4+ Stars). I would have to agree with that rating, personally I’d give the product 4 stars. The only claim from the website that I would disagree with is that the vitamin E helps lips remain conditioned. It’s winter time and unfortunately my lips are extremely chapped, so I have to keep them moisturized and exfoliated. When I applied some of the Lip Creme’s they felt drier than I’d like. The main culprits were the shades Rose Gold and Monaco. I have to say that not all the shades were drying. Watermelon and the other red shades (Fraise Bonbon & Brique) felt amazing on my lips. Another thing that I didn’t like about this product is how many of the shades accentuate the lip lines. I never realized how many lines were on my lips until I applied this product. Not all the shades have this problem, but accentuated lip lines is not a look I want to go for.

One of the things I love about this product is how it applies. One swipe and I have full coverage. One thing I would recommend is not pressing your lips together. Some of the colors can handle it and others it just sheers them out. Jouer should get a pat on the back for the shade range as well. They have some beautiful nudes that work for every shade: Creme Brûlée (a warm nude or muted brown), Noisette (brown nude or chocolate brown), Petale de Rose (cool deep rose or pinky nude), and Dulce de Leche (cool nude or pinky nude that is similar to Petale de Rose). I used either a mauve or dark brown liner with these shades, although I only think it’s necessary for my skin tone with the pink or rose shades.

The only shade I purchased that I wasn’t too impressed with was Melon. It was a little too pink in my opinion for my skin tone and is definitely out of my comfort zone. It also applied a little funny on my lips so I had to use a moisturizer (coconut oil) to get it to work. I was swatching all of these colors back to back so that may have something to do with it, but this was only maybe the third or fourth shade and it just was not working for me. Overall, I am definitely impressed with the longevity of this product, the scent, application, and color range.

Jouer Lip Toppers & Lip Glosses

I would have to give the Lip Toppers and the Lip Glosses five stars easily. I absolutely love the scent of the Lip Toppers I have (Sweetheart and Sweettooth). They smell like fresh baked cupcakes. They have a somewhat vanilla scent but it’s not over powering or nauseating.

The Lip Gloss range offers something for every girl like myself that is obsessed with lip gloss. They have a high pigment gloss (14 shades), a high pigment pearl gloss (8 shades), and a sheer gloss (6 shades). I personally love a good glossy and moisturize lip. Sometimes I want color and sometimes I just want sheer coverage depending on what I’m doing and where I’m going. I have tried the High Pigment Lip Gloss in the shade Broadway which is a brown high pigment gloss that I love, and I’ve tried the sheer pigment lip gloss in the shade Monaco which I also love (my lips are lined in the picture below).
