What were your parents doing at your age?
Thinking about where my parents were at my age and where I am currently makes me sad. By my age, my parents were happily married with my sister and I. They both were in their careers and had the family the house, the farm, and the dogs. I think most would say they had the American dream.
In my mid 30s, I can’t hold a relationship for more than a year and am single parent. I don’t want to say that as if that’s a bad thing; I am in my career, I do have a roof over my head and my child and I want for nothing. I’ve also met a pretty amazing man.
Somewhere in the past 30 years the American dream has shifted; or dare I say seems unattainable by 30. I would love to have a strong foundation grounded in a love for Christ, a happy marriage, a healthy home, and a safe environment to raise kids. I’m thinking that will happen by 40.
The gag is, I thought I would be married by the time I was 30 with three kids. 🙃 Here I am losing my mind with one kid and single! Life has a way of humbling you, but I do believe things happen when you’re ready to receive them.
